Wayne is our Founder AKA “Bosso” of Kokoda Spirit and Kokoda Extreme, which is Australia’s and PNG’s most respected and professional company trekking, running and biking across the original War Time Kokoda Trail. Wayne has been operating in PNG since 2004, with Kokoda Spirit escorting over 7000 trekkers safely in the footsteps of heroes across Kokoda. He is also a foundation member of the Kokoda Tour Operators Association.
Wayne has personally completed more than 70 Kokoda treks, including a triple Kokoda crossing, a fast two-day trek and three Kokoda Coast to Coast challenges.
He has an intimate knowledge and passion for the track and our Australian war history, so he certainly knows his stuff and what it takes to complete this epic and iconic trail. His enthusiasm and knowledge will inspire you to also follow in the footsteps of our heroes.
Some of Wayne’s other adventure highlights include:
– 11 treks across the infamous Sandakan Death March in Borneo and has summited its highest Mountain, Mt Kinabalu at 4098m, 12 times
– Summited Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa on 5 occasions and climbed Mt Fuji in Japan
– Trekked Nepal and Everest Base Camp
– Completed a 1600km bike ride from Brisbane to Townsville in 8 days averaging over 200km per day
Greg jumped on board with us back in 2015 and has successfully led over 30 Kokoda treks for our sister company Kokoda Spirit. Thanks to his military background and extensive research, he’s able to tell you the finer details of the history of Kokoda and the men who fought for our freedom. Greg gives our trekkers the military history side of the Kokoda Campaign history mixed with humour and the forming of a very special individual and group lifelong bond.
Greg served as an Infantryman in the Australian Regular Army for over 35 years including operational service in South Vietnam and Somalia. Since his discharge in late 2004 he’s worked in the Fitness Industry as a Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor but has been active in sport all if his life, mainly Rugby League, Rugby Union, Boxing and Touch.
Greg is very proud that his wife Cheryl, daughter Lyndal and son Marty have all separately trekked the Kokoda Track with him and is excited that his son Marty will now also be joining KokodaXtreme as a trek leader.
As you can tell, Greg is very passionate about keeping fit and healthy and will continue to return to Kokoda with our Xtreme adventurers for many years to come.
Anthony Thompson – Outdoor Athlete and Adventurer
I initially completed the Kokoda track for charity in 2013 and it was such an incredible experience I always knew I would go back.
When the opportunity came up to guide groups of like-minded adventurers across the unique track, I jumped at the chance. With my personal interest in military history and my love of the outdoors it was a dream come true.
I’ve now guided groups across Kokoda on numerous occasions with many of the treks being the faster 6 day treks that Kokoda Spirit and Kokoda Xtreme offer. In addition to this I’m one of the key organisers of the Kokoda Ultra Marathon which is an epic 3 day running event across the Kokoda track.
When I’m not on the track I live in Sydney with my beautiful wife and baby girl, and run my own business as a strength and conditioning coach, local trekking guide and co-own 360 Athlete – an online coaching and training platform.
